Ship Law Sea FZ LLE is a boutique shipping and international trade law, offering expert advice and support in maritime and trade disputes, arbitrations, global ship arrests and releases, and other security measures. Our dedication to excellence and deep industry knowledge enable us to provide customized, effective legal solutions for all your maritime requirements.

The Firm’s ethos is to provide clients with cost-effective, timely, and commercially relevant advice. The Firm has also partnered with local law firms across the region, to assist clients locally. We act for various ship owners, managers, and operators across the globe representing a varied fleet of bulk carriers, tankers, and offshore vessels.

The Firm also acts for multiple ship owners/ operators as their trusted shipping counsel advising them on their day-to-day operational issues.

Area Of Practise

Ship Sale & Purchase

Our specialized transactions team assists both sellers and buyers with drafting and reviewing MOAs, preparing delivery documents and assisting in closing of sale purchase transactions. Our team also assists clients in advising on setting up suitable structures for vessel acquisitions. Adding value to our transactions practice, we also advise clients on various contentious sale and purchase issues, including but not limited to Notice of Readiness, condition of the vessel at time of delivery, cancellation and extensions and damages for non-performance.

Maritime Advisory

We act as advisors and in-house counsel to many shipowners, operators, ship-managers for their day to day shipping issues. We believe in the proverb "A Stitch in Time Saves Nine" and are always available to provide real time support to clients and the vessels crew.

Charter Party Disputes

Our team regularly advises clients on all types of charterparties disputes, including but not limited to formation, non-payment of hire, withdrawal and termination, breakdown issues, redelivery, bunker quality claims, demurrage and detention, unsafe port claims, off-hire, liens and issues surrounding SIRE. We have a vast network of maritime lawyers across various jurisdictions and regularly act for clients in ship arrests and releases.

International Arbitration

We regularly act for ship owners, charterers, sellers and buyers in international ad-hoc and institutional arbitrations. We regularly act for clients in LMAA, SCMA, ICA and HKIAC arbitrations.

Cargo Claims

Our team also advises and acts for clients on cargo claims, quantity and quality claims, bills of lading disputes. We have acted for clients in bringing and defending both contractual and tortious claims in various jurisdictions.

P and I and Marine Insurance

Our practice covers a broad range of P&I Our practice covers a broad range of P&I services, working closely with ship owners and clubs. We offer guidance and manage claims related to personal effects loss, diversion expenses, salvage, collisions, cargo issues, and more under P&I insurance policies.

Managing Partner
Mr. Sujan Malhotra

The Firm’s Managing Partner Sujan Malhotra has been thoroughly invested in shipping with more than 14 years of experience in various areas of Maritime Law. He holds an LLM in International Maritime Law from Swansea University, which laid the groundwork for his profound understanding of the intricacies of the maritime industry.

He is a practicing English Solicitor and an Indian Advocate. He has both in-house and law firm experience having worked with a leading law firm previously and multiple offshore and main fleet shipping companies as their in-house counsel. Mr. Malhotra serves as a member of the BIMCO Documentary Committee since 2019 representing U.A.E. shipowners, continuing from his stint representing Monaco shipowners and is also an elected member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and The Institute of the Chartered Shipbrokers.

Mr. Dipam Sengupta

Associate
Holds an LL.M. in Maritime Law and International Arbitration from the University of Southampton, coupled with more than four years of diverse experience in reputed law firms and chambers in India. As a practising advocate, he has handled a wide range of complex disputes on behalf of shipowners and his expertise extends to areas such as vessel arrests, cargo disputes, maritime accidents, charter party agreements, and international trade disputes.

Ms. Gopika Krishnan

Junior Associate
She is a graduate of The National University of Advanced Legal Studies. Her areas of interest encompass Admiralty laws, Contracts, and related legal matters.

Ms. Narimane Aliouat

Junior Associate
She holds an LL.M. in Business Law from Algeria's Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. She also has an LL.M. in business law, specializes in legal procedures under UAE law, and has worked on various commercial disputes.
